Who We Are
Dorset Reclaim is a furniture re-use charity with depots based in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorchester offering a wide variety of electrical and household furniture and goods donated from local people & businesses. We work across Dorset and the west of Hampshire to fulfil our main aims, which are:-
Supplying low income families with good quality furniture, electrical and household goods.
Providing training and volunteering opportunities to help develop work and social skills.
Encouraging local people to re-use and recycle, thereby reducing the amount going to landfill.
After a devastating fire at the Bournemouth depot in Stanley Road in January 2010, the depot was moved temporarily to a warehouse in Windham Road, just a couple of roads away. After a lot of hard work, the Stanley Road depot was completely rebuilt and in January 2011, a year after the original incident, Dorset Reclaim Bournemouth returned to Stanley Road.
With the temporary Windham Road depot now empty, the Reclaim Trustees decided to pilot a new kind of depot, one that was open to everyone. This would allow the charity to re-use more furniture and household items, offer more volunteering opportunities and also provide a wider service to the local community. We also hoped it would supply some additional funding to help support our main work. .
In February 2011, Windham Road opened its doors as the Dorset Reclaim Charity Outlet - a charity shop open to everyone.
